Evenwood Town won the Norman Wright trophy today after coming back from a goal behind at half time against Stanhope SSC.
Stanhope were much the better side in the first half and took the lead on 24 minutes through Ryan Embling. Evenwood's only threat came from a back pass which went narrowly wide.
Stanhope's defence had looked very secure during the first 45 minutes but they inexplicably conceded two soft penalties early in the second half. Both were despatched by Gareth McMahon Jnr and were to prove the turning point. Alex Goundry made it 3-1 after 75 minutes and with Evenwood totally in control McMahon completed his hat trick to make the final score 4-1.
Evenwood were worthy winners though few could have predicted the second half turn round when Stanhope were very much second best..
A minute's silence was observed before the game in memory of Gary Parker and Kay Morris.
