Willington progress in shoot out.

Willington WMC were runners up in last seasons's Norman Wright trophy and they progressed to this years second round in dramatic style today. The match at Newton Aycliffe Royal Telegraph ended 4-4 after ninety minutes with Jak Crocher (2), Lee Brown and Dany Lee the Willington marksmen. Kieran Maughan (2), Jay Rose and Andrew Vincent replied for Telegraph. An extraordinary penalty shoot out followed before Willington won through 13-12. "Good advert for grassroots football this afternoon from both sides" said Telegraph's Declan Middleton.
Middlestone Moor moved to within a point of leaders Royal Telegraph with an 8-0 victory over Stanley Town. Josh Farlow top scored with four while other goals came courtesy of Ross Morrow (2), Ellis Codd and Scott Maughan.
Wynyard The Stables moved up a couple of places with an 8-2 win at Evenwood Town. Charlie Ellison top scored with five and there were further Stables goals from James Horton (2) and Elliot Duffy. Liam Blithe. bagged a brace for Evenwood.
Stanhope's Minor Cup tie with Howden Australian was brought forward a week to ensure it didn't clash with Stanhope Show. The home side took a 2-0 lead but Howden pulled one back from Lucas Baker. Stanhope resumed control and went on to complete a 9-2 win through Sam Green (4), Aydan Bowers (3), James Gristwood and Ryan Embling. Connor Box bagged the second for Howden. There was again praise for Howden "They gave a plucky display and never gave up" reports Clem.
